It's definitely something to consider making more obvious, so it's not as much a surprise to the audience as it is to Mr. Watson. When you hate your body, but plan to get rid of it at the earliest chance... of course you'll mistreat it a bit. I actually didn't realize Adam didn't know about Jules, considering he's been insisting on that instead of Julia. Some of Adam's annoyance is much understood at this point.
